Gold Express launched on Steam Early Access on September 27, 2019. Gold Express is a cyberpunk style asymmetric multiplayer/co-op survival game developed by Dawn Studio.
Gold Express features two teams. Four extractors and one watcher. The Extractors are trying to survive in the game, the Watcher is trying to stop extractors from escaping.
If you decided to be an attacker or a survivor, let's start the game! The character selection screen comes before the game starts. Each Extractor has to choose a different character. This means that sometimes you can't pick your favorite character. Although this may upset some players, I don't think it's a big problem.
At the beginning, the game allows you to choose the spawning point on the map. I like having this option. So you can set your strategy in the beginning of game. Moving together and communication with your team is key to success. So the two Extractor must act together to help each other. Isn't that what makes multiplayer games fun?
The Extractors need to extract data cubes and upload them to the machines. As an extractor, you can get the data cubes from Data Miner machines. After that, you need to upload the data cubes to Data Warehouse machines.
In the Gold Express, there are wonderful mechanics and objectives that affect the gameplay. When playing as a watcher, placing blocks in critical places, such as stair railings, makes it difficult for those who try to escape. In the meantime, you can place or remove blocks by holding down the default E key. When playing as an Extractor, you can slow down the Watcher by adding blocks to the top of the doors. It will give you an extra advantage as you can slide under those blocks. The default slide key is F. Also, adding blocks to the windows near the machines while playing as the Watcher will make it difficult for the Extractors. It's nice to have strategic mechanics like these in the game.
Another thing that makes it difficult for the Extractor is that the traps in the machines. The Watcher can put poison in the machine and prevent the Extractors from accessing the machine. After the Extractor has been trapped, the Watcher can easily spot the Extractor in the arena. Ah, one more thing... each time an Extractor with Data Cubes is hit by poison, one of the data cubes of the Extractor drops to the floor. The poison in machines is another factor that excites and stresses Extractors.
I must say that the chase between Watcher and Extractors is exciting. The Watcher's footsteps can shudder people like me. If Watcher hits you during the chase, you will get slightly injured and leave footsteps on the ground while running. That makes Watcher can easily find you.
When Watcher hits an Extractor several times and execute her, it doesn't mean that this is the end of the game for Extractor. The Extractor turns into a ghost and the game gives her the opportunity to return. You just need to go to another Extractor. By holding down the E key he can revive you. You have to be quick when you're in the form of a ghost/hologram, or you'll disappear completely after a while. Likewise, don't forget to save your friends who are in ghost form!
If the Extractors want to escape from the arena, they should complete the upload seven data cubes. As the Watcher, you have to stop them. When extractors complete the upload task or only one Extractor is alive, two teleport points appear on the map that allows escape from the arena. Extractors, remember! You have three minutes to escape.
Another nice thing in the Gold Express is the abilities of the characters. Each character has different active and passive abilities. Each character also has its own advantages and disadvantages. So you can choose a character according to your style of play, determine the strategy you want.
There are extra things in the game. For example, you can put your own spray paint to the wall, or you can dancing with your friends. Although these do not affect the gameplay, it is obvious that it makes the game more fun.
The designs of maps and characters are good enough for a Cyberpunk style game. The graphics in the game are fine but can be improved a little more. Also, although the current maps are good in design, I hope they will be adding more maps in later updates. Playing on the same map continuously can become tedious after a while.
The game audio and voices are not bad in Gold Express. Sometimes I encounter a situation like this, even though the Watcher is far away, I hear Watcher's footsteps as if he were very close. Since the game is currently in early access, I think it will be better in the future.
Finally, I didn't encounter any problems with the performance in the game. I played the Gold Express on a computer with i7 4790k processor, GTX 1070 graphics card and 16 GB ram. I played the game smoothly on highest graphics settings.
I think Gold Express does have a lot of potential. In my opinion, Gold Express definitely have a future. If you've played games in this genre already and you loved them, I would recommend the Gold Express to you.
