How to Fix Reconnect the Drive - 0x8007007b Error (Game Pass Games)

Issue: After downloading a PC Game Pass game (e.g., Sniper Elite 5) from the Microsoft Store recently, I have been unable to update my game with the error message: "Reconnect the drive for the download. We couldn't find it. Error code: 0x8007007b"

Solution: On Windows 10/11, if your Xbox Game Pass game cannot update anymore with error code 0x8007007b, firstly move the game to a different drive. Then your game should update. After the downloading is complete, you can move the game back to your primary drive if you want.

If you have no idea how to do it, follow the instructions below.

How to Fix the "Reconnect the drive for the download" Error

Error Code 0x8007007B usually occurs when you do not have enough storage space on your Windows PC to install the game.

If that's not the problem, you should move your game file location from its default location (usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games) to another drive (e.g., D:\XboxGames). Then try updating your game again. This can help fix many update problems with Xbox Game Pass / Microsoft Store games, such as error code 0x8007007b while attempting to download an update.

You can move the game's file location in the Windows Xbox app or the Windows control panel.

How to move a game on the Windows Xbox app

You can use the Xbox app to move your games' installation folder and files. Follow the steps:

  • Launch the Xbox app on your Windows PC.
  • On the left panel, right-click on the game.
  • Select Manage
  • Go to the Files tab.
  • Click Change Drive
  • Select the drive where you want to move the game's files and start the process.

How to change a game's installation location in Windows Settings

To change your game's installation location, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to Windows Settings > Apps > Apps & features
  • Find the game from the list.
  • Click on the game.
  • Click the Move button.
  • Then select a different drive to move your game, and click Move.

Note: When the moving process is complete, you can update the game without any problems in the Xbox app. Also, those who wish can move the game to the previous drive by following the same steps when the download is complete.
