The Outer Worlds Review

The Outer Worlds launched on October 25, 2019. The Outer Worlds is an action sci-fi role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Private Division.

Many players were eagerly waiting for The Outer Worlds to play it. I was one of those people. Among the games of this genre, I had been so excited when Fallout 4 came out. But the game was disappointing for me. Anyway, now we are facing a great single-player RPG game. The Outer Worlds!

We're in a spaceship named Hope and we're lost in space. During our journey, Hope suddenly fails. A guy named Phineas Welles awakens our character from cryogenic sleep. After that, Phineas Welles is asking our character for help. Welles is making an emergency landing on the planet Terra 2. Our adventure begins on this planet where we don't know what kind of place it is.

After the cutscene, the character creation screen appears. Firstly, we need to select the attributes. There are Body (Strength & Dexterity), Mind (Intelligence & Perception), and Personality (Charm & Temperament) options in the Attributes menu. You can increase and decrease what you want. So you can identify the weaknesses and strengths of your character. Strength has the feature to increase the carrying capacity. I love looting in games, so I've maximized the Strength. After selecting attributes, you need to choose skills and aptitudes. Finally, you can customize your character. There are Gender, Face, Hair, and Features options on the Appearance screen.

The Outer Worlds is similar to Fallout games in storytelling, and that's a good thing. There's a mysterious and intriguing story in the game. We can shape our mysterious story in The Outer Worlds. The decisions we make are effective in the game. Also, our companions have their own stories too. What more could you want?

During the adventures, you can meet some NPCs and add them to your team. Each companion has its own abilities and professions. It is possible to come across companions such as a doctor, and engineers. In some quests, these abilities of companions may be useful. When you leave the ship, you can choose companions that may be useful in your mission.

Every time you level up, you'll get skill points. You should use your skill points correctly. For example, if you like to use heavy weapons or long guns and want to do more damage with them, you need to add points to Ranged. I trust my companions, and I love traveling with them. Therefore, I added most of my points to Leadership, Inspiration and Determination. Also, you get a new perk every even level. Of course, I chose the weight perks and companion perks.

Combat is not difficult in The Outer Worlds. It is fun to use weapons and companions' abilities in combat. The weapon variety isn't poor in the game. There are enough weapons for me. You can also modify your weapons and armor. There are a lot of options to install mods on your items. For example, damage type, more damage, magazine size, durability, sights, armor rating, etc...

The game has a colorful universe. The Outer Worlds' vast landscapes look spectacular. It is not possible not to admire it. As the story takes place on more than one planet, the flora and creatures of our location are also different. This prevents us from getting bored. I wish the open world of the game was as spectacular as the color palette. I mean, I wish the open world had a little more detail. Nevertheless, the world of the game wasn't bad, it was enough to have fun.

I liked the in-game music. The sounds are compatible with the ambient in the game. Also, the voice acting is excellent in the game, but the animations seem inadequate. For example, during dialogue, the characters seem nearly unmoving.

Finally, I want to talk about the performance of the game. The Outer Worlds ran beautifully and smoothly on the GTX 1070 and i7 4790k. The loading screens didn't take long either. However, if you have problems with performance, you should take a look at this guide.

In a nutshell, The Outer Worlds has a nostalgic enjoyment. The game is similar in some respects to classic Fallout, but it is more colorful. If you like role-playing and open-world games, worth adding to your library!
