The potential solutions include changing your DNS servers, flushing DNS, running the Rockstar Game Launcher in compatibility mode, deleting the Social Club folder, trying to run the Rockstar Game Launcher using your mobile internet, and disabling your VPN if it is active, or trying to connect using a VPN if you don't have one.

In some cases, the issue might lie with your DNS servers. Fortunately, changing your DNS servers is a relatively simple task. You'll need to:

  1. Open the Control Panel
  2. Click on Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings
  3. Right-click your network connection and select Properties
  4. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then Properties
  5. Select Use the following DNS server addresses and input the addresses of the new DNS servers
  6. Click OK to save the changes

2. Flush DNS

Flushing your DNS cache is another solution you might want to consider. To do this:

  1. Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box
  2. Type in cmd and press Enter to open Command Prompt
  3. In the Command Prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns and then press Enter

3. Run Rockstar Game Launcher in Compatibility Mode

If you're having compatibility issues, running the launcher in compatibility mode might help. To do this:

  1. Right-click the Rockstar Game Launcher executable file and select Properties
  2. In the Properties window, go to the Compatibility tab
  3. Tick the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for and select the version of Windows that the program worked well in
  4. Click OK

4. Reinstall Rockstar Game Launcher

Another reliable solution is to uninstall and reinstall the Rockstar Game Launcher. This can fix potential installation issues that might be preventing you from connecting to the Rockstar Social Club. Let's break it down:

  1. Type control panel into the Windows search bar and open the Control Panel
  2. Click on Uninstall a Program under the Programs section.
  3. In the list of programs, find Rockstar Games Launcher, click it, and then click Uninstall. Follow the prompts to uninstall the launcher.

This step should rectify the issue if it was caused by a corrupted installation of the game launcher. Certainly, reinstalling the Rockstar Game Launcher has fixed the issue for many users experiencing the "Failed to connect to the Rockstar Games Library Service" error.

5. Delete Social Club Folder

Sometimes, corrupted files in the Social Club folder might be the reason you can't connect to your GTA 5 account. Therefore, deleting it could potentially fix the problem. You can find this folder in your Documents directory. Navigate to the Rockstar Games folder and delete the Social Club folder.

6. Run Rockstar Game Launcher with Mobile Internet

If you still can't connect to Rockstar Social Club, your home internet might be the issue. In such a case, you might want to try running Rockstar Game Launcher using your mobile's internet connection. Connect your mobile device to your computer and activate tethering.

7. Try VPN

Finally, if your VPN is active, it might be causing the connection issue. Try turning it off and connecting again. On the other hand, if you don't have a VPN, it might be worth trying to connect with one, as this could bypass potential network restrictions causing the issue.

Question: I am playing Grand Theft Auto Online on the PlayStation 4 and I am having problems staying connected to other players. Some of the error messages I have seen include saving failed, session timed out or ended due to an unknown network error, the game unable to find a compatible session, or Rockstar game services are unavailable. How can I improve my connection?
Answer: Below are steps to clear your system cache, to check your connection speed meets the minimum requirements, information on how to verify your Network Address Translation (NAT) Types are set correctly, and steps to verify that the correct network ports are open and a common router settings check.
Check the GTA Online Server Status
Before troubleshooting, make sure to check our GTA Online Server Status page (https://support.rockstargames.com/servicestatus) to rule out an outage or scheduled maintenance as a cause of the issue.
If the GTA Online status currently says UP, the problem may be related to some connection types conflicting with other players, or other problems with your network setup.
    Check your Internet Connection Speed
You can check your connection speed at any online speed test, such as http://speedtest.net Good targets for minimum upload and download speeds are:
    Download Speed: 7.5 Mbps
    Upload Speed (recommended): 1 Mbps
    Upload Speed (minimum): .5 Mbps
Note: If you are on a wireless connection, it may be a good idea to try using a wired, Ethernet connection and see if you are still having issues.
Check your Network Address Translation (NAT) Type settings
A more open NAT Type will have fewer conflicts with other player systems and encounter less connectivity issues.
    NAT Type Settings
Navigate to your console’s home screen
Push up on the left control stick
Navigate to the Settings panel and choose Network

    Select Test Internet Connection

After the test is complete, your NAT Type will be on the bottom of the next screen
    NAT Type Definitions
NAT Type 1: Can play games with any NAT type. Usually the system is connected to the Internet without a router
NAT Type 2: Can play games with open or moderate NAT types. Similar to Type 1, except connected to the Internet through a router
NAT Type 3: Can only play games with open NAT types

Check your Firewall / Router for NAT Type restrictions
If you have a firewall or other network hardware, such as a router, you may need to access them to change your NAT type. Sometimes this configuration change is caused by opening or forwarding other network ports.
    Check your Open Network Ports
PlayStation Network uses the following ports for communication with game servers:
    Port 80 (TCP)
    Port 443 (TCP)
    Port 3478 (UDP and TCP)
    Port 3479 (UDP and TCP)
    Port 3480 (TCP)
GTA Online requires the following ports to be open:
    Port 6672 (UDP)
    Port 61455 (UDP)
    Port 61457 (UDP)
    Port 61456 (UDP)
    Port 61458 (UDP)
Change your Domain Name Servers (DNS)
    Go to Settings
    Select Network
    Select Set Up Internet Connection
Select Wifi/LAN (depending on what you use to connect)
    Select Custom
Select / Enter the following details
    IP Address Settings = Automatic
DHCP Host Name = Do Not Specify
    DNS Settings = Manual
    Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
    Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
    (These are Google DNS Addresses)
    MTU Settings: Automatic
    Proxy Server: Do Not Use
    Reset Your Network Router
You can reset your router by unplugging it and leaving it unplugged for about 10 minutes. Restart the game client and check to see if your issue is resolved.
    Additional Troubleshooting Steps
Check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and see if they are experiencing any issues connecting to us, or if they have any temporary outages.
Make sure your router’s firmware is up-to-date (check with your ISP)
Enable or disable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) on your router or system settings
If you have a combined router/modem or ADSL, try temporarily setting the unit to Bridge Mode. This will bypass the router part of the hardware. If this fixes the issue, you may be able to connect a second router between the combination unit and the console to dial the PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet)
If you use an ADSL connection, check to see if dialing a PPPoE connection from the console improves your NAT type.

  • Hi maybe you can help me it's been over a year and my connection issue continues. I think Rockstar is just ignoring me because they can't or won't fix the problem. After 20-45 minutes I am kicked from online play and returned to single player. I cleared the cache data. Power cycled, uninstalled the game and reinstalled from disk. Also Rockstar is just saying I have been helped and issue resolved. I'm playing on PS4. I even cleared my save files from the console.
Please ghost arrow help me get this fixed.
