How to Fix: Call of Duty Vanguard is crashing and won't launch on PC

If you're having issues launching or crashing feel free to try some of these solutions:

1. Repair the game files

If you haven't tried it, first verify Vanguard's file integrity and repair it.

  • Run the Battle.net launcher
  • Select Call of Duty: Vanguard
  • Click on the Options
  • Click Scan and Repair
  • After that, select Begin Scan

2. Disable your secondary display

Some Call of Duty Vanguard players say that multiple displays cause the game to crash and "Scan and Repair" error every time.

The error says:

"Fatal Error. Unfortunately, the application has unexpectedly stopped working.
Trying a 'Scan and Repair' might solve the issue.
If the problem persists, please reach out to the online support

If you're using multiple displays, temporarily unplug or disable all monitors except your primary monitor.

3. Disable background applications

Applications such as Razer Synapse, AutoHotKey, MSI Afterburner, RTSS Rivatuner, iCUE, EVGA Precision X1, ASUS GPU Tweak, Fraps, GeForce Experience Overlay, Discord Overlay may cause the game to not launch or crash during gameplay.

Especially those who encounter the "Scan and Repair" error should close the running applications and try to play COD Vanguard.

You can follow these steps to close the applications running at the startup on your PC. This method is more useful than turning them off one by one.

4. Update your drivers

And of course, the GPU drivers must be up to date for Call of Duty Vanguard to run stably.

You can download the latest drivers from these links:

Also, if you want a clean driver installation, I recommend using DDU: How to use DDU

5. Error code: 0x00001338 (5573)

If you are encountering the 0x00001338 (5573) error when trying to play multiplayer mode in COD Vanguard, this may be caused by an operator skin. So remove your operator skins, and then play multiplayer. You can change the operator skin by selecting a default one.

6. Windows 11

Some users who migrated from Windows 10 to Windows 11 are unable to launch Call of Duty: Vanguard even though they have updated all the drivers. They found the solution by doing a clean installation of Windows 11 (Not upgrading to Win11 from Win10).

Hope the issues you are facing in Vanguard get fixed!
